– Group I base oils typically range in color from pale amber to yellow-brown due to the presence of sulfur, nitrogen, and remaining aromatic hydrocarbons in the oil.
– According to API, Group I base oils have a hydrocarbon content of <90%, sulfur > 0.03%, and a viscosity index VI within the range of 80-120.
– The temperature range for these oils is from 32 to 150 degrees F (0°C – 65°C).
– Group I base oils are the most commonly used for industrial lubricants, marine engine oils, or engine oils with low ACEA 10 standards for older generation engines.
